The City of Brandon is beginning its flood recovery efforts after the Assiniboine River fell slightly below flood stage on Tuesday morning. As of 7 a.m., the river level measured 1171.60 feet, allowing water to recede from some low-lying areas and giving city crews access to assess damage and prepare cleanup and debris removal plans.
The Red Willow Pathway has reopened to the public, while Dinsdale Park and Queen Elizabeth Park remain closed as crews continue debris removal, infrastructure repairs and roadway work. City officials say the parks will reopen once conditions are safe for residents.
Recovery work is also expanding to Grand Valley Road, where heavy equipment is being mobilized to remove the temporary dike closure. Removal efforts are expected to begin later this week.
Officials are asking residents to respect all closures and remain patient as recovery work continues. The City thanked residents for their cooperation throughout the flood event and encouraged the public to follow its social media channels for the latest updates.
The flooding follows another high-water event along the Assiniboine River, a waterway that has historically overflowed into Brandon’s low-lying areas.
