With the departure of longtime head coach and GM Mike Reagan to the WHL’s Kelowna Rockets, the SJHL’s Flin Flon Bombers had massive shoes to fill at the head coach and general manager position. They announced yesterday they’re turning to a Brandon product to fill them.
Former AAA Wheat King and Brandon native Cole McCaig has been named the new head coach and GM of the historic SJHL franchise. He spent last season as an assistant coach with the Brooks Bandits but had previously been assistant coach under Reagan in Flin Flon for seven seasons, also serving as an assistant general manager for four of those.
After a three-year playing career with the U18 AAA Wheat Kings, the last of which he spent as captain, McCaig played two seasons and part of a third with the Bombers before being traded to the MJHL’s Waywayseecappo Wolverines and finishing his junior career closer to home. He then played four seasons at Marian University in the NCAA’s Division Three ranks before switching to coaching in 2018-19.
Reagan had been the head coach and GM of the Bombers for 20 seasons prior to the move to Kelowna. Most recently, he led the team to an SJHL title in 2025-26.
