Two Ontario men face charges after an RCMP traffic stop in Brandon led to the seizure of nearly $1 million in cash.
According to RCMP, at about 8:50 PM on July 31, officers recorded an eastbound vehicle on the Trans Canada Highway traveling at 129 kilometers an hour in a 100-kilometer-per-hour zone. They pulled the vehicle over just as it reached Brandon, and ultimately searched the vehicle.
In their release, police allege they found multiple bags containing a large amount of Canadian currency. Both the driver and passenger were arrested and transported to the Minnedosa RCMP detachment. The total value of the cash in the bags turned out to be about $970,000.
Alireza Haghood, 22, from Toronto, Ontario, and Ahmad Ahmadi, 44, from Stouffville, Ontario, are both facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime for the purpose of trafficking over $5,000. Ahmadi was released on a Release Order, Haghood remains in custody in Brandon.. The charges against them have not been tested in court.
