The process of rebuilding and recovering after flooding in Brandon continues, and the City of Brandon has offered another sign of the progress they’ve been making. Grand Valley Road, or PR459, has been reopened.
According to the city, they began the removal of the temporary dike closure on the west side of the Grand Valley Road and 18th Street intersection on August 5. By the end of August 7, the removal had been completed by a local contractor, and city crews had completed the remaining cleanup of the roadway. All barriers have been removed, and the intersection is now open in all directions.
The city also said they expected heavy equipment to remain on site into next week to complete the reshaping and landscaping of the north end of the dike and they appreciated everyone’s patience as they worked through their flood recovery plan.
As of the latest flood update from the city, the Assiniboine river level was at 1171.60 feet, meaning it is slightly below flood stage.
