A construction initiative from the City of Dauphin is going to have to wait until the next construction season after disruptions caused by massive flooding earlier this summer, the effects of which are still being felt.
In a social media post, the City of Dauphin announced they had been forced to reschedule construction of the Craft District Initiative on 2nd Avenue NW until 2027.
“This summer’s significant flooding has had a considerable impact across our community and region,” reads the post, “creating additional demands on municipal resources and affecting contractor availability and construction schedules. In light of these circumstances, the City has determined that rescheduling construction of the Craft District to 2027 is the most practical approach.”
According to the post, pushing this construction project back will allow the City to focus its resources and attention on flood recovery, infrastructure needs, and other priority work during the remainder of the 2026 construction season. They promised to offer updates once they know more about the schedule for the 2027 construction season.
Per the City of Dauphin’s website, the Craft District Initiative is a downtown revitalization and infrastructure improvement project focused on enhancing the public experience, accessibility, walkability, and overall vibrancy of Dauphin’s downtown core. It includes portions of 2nd Avenue NW and 1st Street NW and was part of the City Plan of 2024.
