Late tonight, August 27, we’ve got a pretty spectacular lunar eclipse on the way. The show starts just after 11:00 p.m. Brandon time, when the Moon begins slipping into Earth’s shadow.
By 11:34 p.m., you’ll start to notice a dark “bite” being taken out of the Moon as the partial eclipse gets underway.

The main event happens at 12:47 a.m. on August 28, when about 93% of the Moon is covered by Earth’s shadow. The Moon won’t disappear completely, but most of it should glow a spooky copper-red color, earning it a near “Blood Moon” status.
The shadow then slowly pulls away, with the partial eclipse ending around 2:00 a.m., and the entire event wrapping up shortly after 2:20 a.m.
The best part? No telescope, no special glasses, and no expensive equipment needed. Just step outside, look up, and enjoy one of nature’s coolest light shows. If you can get away from city lights, even better. Manitoba’s dark skies should make the red glow really stand out.
And here’s a fun fact: Brandon won’t see another total lunar eclipse until June 2029, so this is the closest thing we’ll get to a Blood Moon for a while
