Prairie Mountain Health says a new Health Centre for Neepawa won’t be open until late next summer or early next fall. They said this will allow them enough time to complete construction and commissioning, onboard and train staff, and familiarize teams with the new facility and workflows before patients are admitted.
“Opening a new health centre requires significant planning and coordination beyond the completion of construction,” said PHM in a release. “As work progresses, timelines are refined based on construction milestones, commissioning and operational readiness to ensure the facility is ready to safely care for patients from day one.”

According to the release, the new health centre will be about three and a half times the size of the existing hospital. Once complete, it will include 60 acute care inpatient beds (up from 35 at the existing hospital), an expanded emergency department with treatment and assessment rooms, trauma rooms and an ambulance bay, a nine-station hemodialysis suite, expanded space for surgery, diagnostics, palliative care and birthing services, expanded outpatient services, including six chemotherapy treatment stations and therapy services, and a helipad.
