Portage la Prairie RCMP are investigating after a vacant mall on the 2400‑block of Saskatchewan Avenue West was broken into and heavily vandalized sometime over the weekend. Officers were called to the property around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 31, where they found extensive damage throughout the building.
Police say most interior glass panes were smashed, a large tree inside the structure was cut down, and several unoccupied storefronts and the general office were ransacked. Graffiti was also spray‑painted across multiple walls. RCMP estimate the damage at more than $100,000, noting that nothing appears to have been stolen.
Investigators are now working to identify the suspect or suspects responsible. Anyone with information is asked to contact Portage la Prairie RCMP at 204‑857‑4445, Crime Stoppers at 1‑800‑222‑8477, or submit a secure tip online through Manitoba Crime Stoppers.
