On Sept. 1, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Brandon RCMP responded to the first of two residential break-ins that occurred in short succession in Forrest, Man.
In each incident, the suspect forced his way into residences, began yelling, then left shortly after being confronted by homeowners. No one was injured.
RCMP identified a suspect in the incident and patrolled the community in an effort to locate him but were unsuccessful at that time. Later that day, the suspect was found by Brandon Police Service, who transported the male to hospital for medical treatment. The suspect left the hospital some time later.
At approximately 7:10 p.m., Brandon RCMP were called to the suspect’s residence in Forrest.
They located and spoke with the suspect, who was in another room behind a closed door. As the conversation continued, officers became concerned that he may be armed. RCMP left the residence and set up a perimeter around the home. The suspect agreed to exit the home at 9:45 p.m. and was safely taken into custody.
Three firearms as well as ammunition were found inside the home.
A 51-year-old Forrest male faces charges of:
- Break and enter x2;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm;
- Careless use of a firearm; and
- Failure to comply with a release order condition.
He was remanded into custody.
