The Brandon community is being invited to lace up their shoes and join the 46th annual Terry Fox Run on Sunday, September 20, at Brandon University. Participants will gather in front of the university library, with registration opening at 9:00 a.m. and the run beginning at 10:00 a.m. The event is family-friendly, pet-friendly, and open to participants of all ages and abilities.
The Terry Fox Run began in 1981, one year after Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope captured the attention of Canadians across the country. Established to continue Terry’s dream of raising money for cancer research, the run has grown into one of the world’s largest volunteer-led fundraising events, with communities across Canada and around the globe participating each year.
Since the first Terry Fox Run, supporters have helped raise more than $1 billion for cancer research, proving that Terry Fox’s legacy continues to make a lasting impact on cancer care and research across Canada and beyond.
Brandon participants can choose from 1 km, 2 km, 5 km, or 10 km routes. The 1 km route turns around at 23rd Street and Louise Avenue, while the 2 km route continues to 26th Street and Louise. The 5 km course follows a loop through southwest Brandon before returning to the university, and the 10 km option completes the same course twice for an added challenge. Walkers and runners are welcome on all routes.
There is no registration fee. Instead, participants are encouraged to donate an amount of their choice to the Terry Fox Foundation in support of cancer research. Registration is available online in advance or in person up until the start of the run.
The weather forecast is looking favourable, with Environment Canada calling for a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 18°C on Sunday.
