A pilot and a single passenger of a small plane were taken to hospital after their plane went off the runway during an airshow at Portage la Prairie Airport.
According to RCMP, they were called to the airport on September 20 at about 4:10 PM. A small plane had been taking off from the runway during an air show when it malfunctioned. The pilot aborted the take-off and attempted to bring the aircraft to a safe stop, but it drove off the end of the runway and went into the ditch.
The pilot, a 61-year-old male, and a 54-year-old female passenger were transported to hospital in Portage la Prairie for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was notified of the incident.
The Portage Flying Club posted on their Facebook Page that the aircraft, from out of town, was involved in an incident but everyone involved was safe and there were no serious injuries.
