In what they called a response to increasing overdoses in Sandy Bay, Manitoba First Nations Police Service Crime Reduction and Enforcement Unit (CREU) conducted an operation in the community and two women are now facing drug trafficking related charges as a result.
According to police, the enforcement took place on September 22. During it, they seized “significant quantities of illicit drugs and proceeds of crime” and arrested several individuals. They also said they seized about 48 grams of methamphetamine, roughly$2,000 Canadian currency, and a digital scale they believe to be associated with drug trafficking activities.
33-year-old Amber Leigh Bell, of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, was arrested and charged with:
– Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking.
– Proceeds of Crime Less Than $5,000
– Disobeying a Cour Order
MFNPS investigators also executed multiple search warrants, including a warrant at Lake Road South in Sandy Bay. As a result of that search, 57-year-old Nancy “Sammy” Beaulieu was arrested and charged with:
– 3 counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, and Codeine, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
None of the charges against them have been proven in court.
“The investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests and charges are anticipated as MFNPS continues its efforts to identify and disrupt those responsible for trafficking dangerous drugs within First Nation communities,” said MFNPS in their release. “Drug trafficking poses a significant threat to the safety and wellbeing of community members.”
