Over 460 graduates from 32 programs at Assiniboine College will be celebrated in Brandon on Friday.
The event recognizes the students’ achievements and dedication as they prepare to enter the workforce in several fields, including health care, early learning, technology, agriculture, business and skilled trades.
“Graduation ceremonies are meaningful and memorable days, for the graduates opening the door to new opportunities, and for their families and friends who are able to recognize this milestone alongside them,” said Mark Frison, president of Assiniboine College.
Among the graduates are more than 65 Practical Nursing and Comprehensive Health Care Aide students, along with 50 students from early learning programs.
One of the Practical Nursing graduates is Jillian Klassen, who began working earlier this year in the neonatal intensive care unit and pediatric maternity floors at Brandon Regional Health Centre.
Klassen said her time at Assiniboine reinforced the importance of patient-centred care, encouraging future students to lead with compassion and listen to their patients’ needs.
“Just make sure you do kind, compassionate care, always listen to your patients and know what they are needing and feeling.”
Manitoba’s Minister of Advanced Education and Training, Renée Cable, congratulated the graduates, highlighting their future contributions to communities across the province.
“Congratulations to Assiniboine’s graduating class on this remarkable achievement. Your dedication and hard work have prepared you for careers in fields that are essential to Manitoba’s continued growth and success. Our province benefits when graduates choose to build their futures here, and we look forward to the contributions you will make in health care, education, business, agriculture, technology and communities across Manitoba,” said Cable.
In addition to Friday’s ceremony in Brandon, Assiniboine will recognize more than 350 graduates at a ceremony in Winnipeg in November.
Friday’s ceremony begins at 2 p.m. in the Manitoba Room located at the Keystone Centre.
