Three provincial police forces are still hunting for mass stabbing suspects Damien and Myles Sanderson. Alerts have been sent out in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba after a string of fatal stabbings.
The CBC reports that on Monday morning, “Regina police Chief Evan Bray said the two suspects were still at large despite “ongoing, relentless efforts through the night” from Regina police and RCMP officers to apprehend them.
RCMP said Sunday afternoon that 10 people were killed, and another 18 hospitalized, following a stabbing spree in 13 different locations in James Smith Cree Nation and the nearby village of Weldon, Saskatchewan.
The two communities are within 60 kilometres of Prince Albert, and about 20 kilometres of each other.
“At this stage in our investigation, we believe some victims have been targeted by the suspect and others have been attacked randomly,” Rhonda Blackmore, commanding officer of the Saskatchewan RCMP, said during the news conference.
Police say there’s no indication that the two men travelled out of the province.”
Reports that the two suspects may have been in Virden, Manitoba, and that the town was in lockdown, are not true according to Manitoba RCMP spokesperson, Paul Manaigre. In an email to Q Country/Star FM News he said “There were tips received at the detachment of black SUV’s in the area which the officers followed up on and were not our suspects. Unfortunately the social media rumour mill is working overtime right now, Virden is not locked down.”
Damien Sanderson is described as five feet seven inches tall and 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Myles Sanderson is described as six feet and one inch tall and 240 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
According to police, the two men were last seen in Regina around 11:20 am on Sunday, and were believed to be driving a black Nissan Rogue with a Saskatchewan licence plate 119 MPI – but they may have since changed their vehicle.
