Pack your skis, skates, and winter gear for an exciting snowy season in Riding Mountain National Park (RMNP). Winter is a wonderful time to explore RMNP, and this season Parks Canada has plenty to offer. From lit-up ice skating paths in town to remote cross-country ski trails, there’s a wide range of activities for all activity levels.
Upon arrival, head to the Visitor Information Centre for maps, trail updates, and information. Friday through Sunday, friendly Parks Canada staff provide visitors with park passes and fishing permits.
Trail grooming is in full swing. Visitors can choose from a variety of ski-only and multi-use trails across RMNP. Visitors are reminded to check trail descriptions and conditions before heading out. It is important to know what to expect and in some cases, what activity and experience level is best suited for your group. Find 11 winter maps online at Trails – Riding Mountain National Park (canada.ca)
Winter camping is an option for everyone in RMNP. Make it easy on yourself and choose one of our nine winterized oTENTiks in the Wasagaming Campground and at Moon Lake. The oTENTiks are available for rent through the Parks Canada Reservation System online at Home (pc.gc.ca)
Winter safety is a shared responsibility. Thin ice may exist anywhere and at any time in the winter season. Assess ice thickness and never go onto ice alone. Hypothermia is a risk when temperatures drop and visitors should always plan and prepare for their trip before they leave home. Parks Canada can help you prepare by assisting you with trip planning and providing you with information.
