-The Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 last night. Jayden Wiens scored on the very first shift – and Matteo Michels scored twice – while Brandon goalie Carson Bjarnason turned aside 32 of 34 shots in the win. Up next – the Wheat Kings visit the Saskatoon Blades tonight before returning to Prince Albert Saturday night.
-The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings play again Saturday in Winnipeg against the Bruins. The Wheat Kings won their 29th straight game this week to improve their league-leading standings to 41-0-1-0.
-In the NHL – The Kraken beat the Canucks 5-2, the Penguins downed the Canadiens 4-1, the Senators topped the Stars also 4-1, the Flames edged the Bruins 3-2 in overtime – and it was the Maple Leafs over the Golden Knights 7-3. The Winnipeg Jets are in action tonight in Chicago.
-At the Canadian Women’s Curling Championship – Manitoba’s Kaitlyn Lawes and Kate Cameron have claimed the final two playoff berths. They join Ontario’s Rachel Homan, Manitoba’s Jennifer Jones, Alberta’s Selena Sturmay – and defending champion Kerri Einarson in today’s round of six. Today at 1:00 pm – Jennifer Jones plays Selena Sturmay, and Kerri Einarson faces Rachel Homan. This weekend’s Scotties winner advances to the world championship March 16th to 24th in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
-and the Brandon University Bobcats men’s basketball team has been eliminated from the Canada West championship tournament. They lost 98-85 to the top-ranked Victoria Vikes in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
