-The Brandon Wheat Kings picked up a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Calgary Hitmen last night. Brandon’s Carson Bjarnason stopped 29 of 32 shots – and Jayden Wiens and Nolan Flamand both scored. Up next – the Wheat Kings are in Lethbridge against the Hurricanes on Friday night.
-Just three NHL games last night, the Toronto Maple Leafs edged the Buffalo Sabres 2-1 in overtime, the Anaheim Ducks beat Ottawa Senators also 2-1 – and the Colorado Avalanche whipped the Detroit Red Wings 7-2. The Winnipeg Jets are back in action Friday in Seattle.
-Game One of the Manitoba Female AAA U18 Hockey League best-of-5 semi-final between the Westman Wildcats and Eastman Selects, which was to be played Wednesday night in Hartney, was postponed and rescheduled to tonight.
-In the Professional Women’s Hockey League – Brandon’s Kristen Campbell made 22 saves in Toronto’s 3-1 win over Boston – and Marie-Philip Poulin had a goal and an assist as Montreal edged New York 4-3. Elm Creek’s Corinne Schroeder made 27 saves in net for New York.
-and the round robin ends today the Canadian Men’s Curling Championship in Regina. Manitoba’s Reid Curruthers is tied with Northern Ontario and Alberta at 5-and-1 atop Pool A – Matt Dunstone’s rink is in 4th place at 4-and-2. Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen leads Pool B at 6-and-1. Defending champion Brad Gushue and Tyler Smith of Prince Edward Island are 5-and-2. The top three teams in each pool advance to The Brier playoffs.
