-The Brandon Wheat Kings visit the Lethbridge Hurricanes tonight. The Wheat Kings are looking to snap a five game losing streak. Brandon is still in 6th place in the WHL Eastern Conference with 65 points – two up on 7th place Lethbridge.
-The Winnipeg Jets are in Seattle against the Kraken tonight. On Tuesday, Seattle beat Winnipeg 4-3.
-The last three series of the best-of-five quarterfinals in the Manitoba AAA U18 Hockey League are all tied at two. On Thursday – Pembina Valley beat Southwest 4-3, the Winnipeg Wild downed Interlake 8-1 – and the Winnipeg Bruins topped the Winnipeg Thrashers 4-3. The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings have already advanced to Round 2 after eliminating the Eastman Selects in 3 straight games.
-In the Manitoba Triple-A Female U18 Hockey League – the Westman Wildcats beat the East-Man Selects 2-1 to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-five semi-final. Game two goes Saturday afternoon in Niverville.
-and Manitoba’s Reid Carruthers and Matt Dunstone snagged playoff spots at the Brier. Also advancing are defending champ Brad Gushue, Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen, the Northwest Territories’ Jamie Koe, and Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher. This afternoon, Reid Carruthers will meet defending champion Brad Gushue, and Mike McEwen will take on Brendan Bottcher in the Page 1-2 qualifying games. Then this evening, Matt Dunstone will play in the Page 3-4 qualifying game against the loser of the Carruthers – Gushue game. The loser of the McEwen – Bottcher game will face Jamie Koe in the other 3-4 qualifier.
