-Brad Gushue and Team Canada captured the Canadian men’s curling championship with a 9-5 win over Saskatchewan’s Mike McEwen at the Brier in Regina. With the win, Gushue, third Mark Nichols and lead Geoff Walker won the sixth Briers of their careers and third straight to match records held by Randy Ferbey of Edmonton. Ferbey also claimed six crowns, including four as a skip when Ferbey also three-peated between 2001 and 2003. Gushue and crew will now represent Canada at the 2024 World Men’s Curling Championship starting March 30th in Switzerland.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings wrap-up a 5-game road swing in Saskatoon Tuesday night. On Saturday, they lost 6-3 to Swift Current. The Wheat Kings have 1 win and 3 losses on this current road trip.
-The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings open the semi-finals Tuesday against the Pembina Valley Hawks at J&G Homes Arena. The Winnipeg Wild face the Winnipeg Thrashers in the other semi-final. The Westman Wildcats Female AAA U18 hockey team blanked the Eastman Selects 4-0 on Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in their best-of-five semi-finals series.
-The Souris Sabres are the Provincial A/AA Junior Varsity boys basketball champions. They got by Immanuel Christian 69-66 in the final on Saturday in Winnipeg. William Morton of Gladstone beat Souris 36-21 in the girls final. Miller Collegiate of Altona girls and Windsor Park boys captured the Provincial AAA JV championships.
-and the Winnipeg Jets host the Washington Capitals tonight. The Jets are coming off a 5-0 loss to Vancouver on Saturday.
