-The Saskatoon Blades shutout the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-0 last night. Egor Sidorov scored a hat-trick for Saskatoon. The loss is the second in-a-row for the Wheat Kings, and they fall to 5-and-3 in the season series to the Blades. Next up for Brandon is a home game against the Prince Albert Raiders this Saturday, March 16th.
-The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings beat the Pembina Valley Hawks 6-1 to open their best-of-5 semi-final series. Game 2 goes Thursday night in Morden.
-The Winnipeg Jets, coming off a 3-0 win over the Capitals on Monday, host the Nashville Predators tonight. The Jets are in second place in the NHL Central Division with 87 points – 9 points ahead of the 4th place Predators.
-The Vincent Massey Vikings have advanced to the Westman High School Hockey League final. They moved on after a 3-2 win over Hamiota/Rivers/Elton/Strathclair yesterday. The Vikings swept the best-of-three semifinal in two straight.
-Four-time Canadian women’s curling champion Briane Harris has been suspended for up to four years after testing positive for a banned substance. Harris, the lead for Kerri Einarson’s team, plans to appeal arguing she was unknowingly exposed to Ligandrol. It’s used to increase energy and muscle growth. Harris was banned from playing at the Scotties after the positive test.
-and Sport Tourism Canada says the 2023 Grey Cup game and festival generated a net economic impact of $41.9 million dollars, including $35.4 million for Ontario and $29.2 million for host city Hamilton. The Montreal Alouettes beat the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 28-24 at Tim Hortons Field.
