-The Brandon Wheat Kings season came to an end Thursday night after a 6-2 loss to the Moose Jaw Warriors. The Warriors took the first round series in 4 straight games.
-The Brandon Triple-A U18 Wheat Kings opened the 2024 West Regionals with a 4-1 win over the Saskatoon Blazers. They play again tonight against the Winnipeg Wild.
-The Manitoba Junior Hockey League playoffs move into Round 2 tonight. The Winkler Flyers take on the Virden Oil Capitals, and the defending champion Steinbach Pistons meet the OCN Blizzard.
-For the 6th time in the last seven seasons, the Winnipeg Jets have clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Gabriel Vilardi scored his first career hat-trick as the Jets beat the Calgary Flames 5-2.
-Canada won its preliminary round opener 4-1 over Finland at the 2024 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Utica, New York. Canada’s next game is this afternoon against Switzerland.
-and Brad Gushue’s Team Canada is 8-and-2 at the world men’s curling championship after a 6-5 loss to Sweden Thursday afternoon. The Canadians, who’ve already advanced to the playoffs, play Japan and Switzerland today to end the round-robin. Sweden tops the standings followed by Scotland and Canada. The top two teams earn a bye to the semifinals.
