-The Edmonton Oilers beat the Dallas Stars 5-2 last night to tie the NHL Western Conference final at 2 wins apiece. Tonight – the New York Rangers host the Florida Panthers for Game 5 of the East Final – it’s also tied at 2.
-Minnesota won the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League championship with a 3-0 win over Boston. Nicole Hensley made 17 saves for the shutout. Taylor Heise was voted the recipient of the Ilana Kloss Playoff MVP award after leading the playoffs in goals with five, and finishing tied for first in points with eight, in ten games played.
-The London Knights have earned a spot in the Memorial Cup final on Sunday. The OHL champions beat the host Saginaw Spirit 4-2 in the final round robin game for both teams. The Knights finished at 3-and-0. Saginaw (2-and-1) will face the WHL champion Moose Jaw Warriors (1-and-2) in the semifinal Friday night.
-In the South West Baseball League – Oak River Dodgers downed the Hamiota Red Sox 14-2.
-The RBC Canadian Open begins today at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario. Last year, Nick Taylor won the title in a four-hole playoff ending a 69-year drought for Canadians at their own championship. Taylor drained a 72-foot birdie putt to beat Tommy Fleetwood. Taylor is in a group today with Rory McIlroy and Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario. Teulon, Manitoba’s Aaron Cockerill, who’s 29th in the DP Tour rankings, tees-off just after 1:00 pm.
