-The Edmonton Oilers fell just one game shy of bringing the Stanley Cup back to Canada after a 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers last night. Florida, who lost in the final in 1996 and again last spring, won its first Cup. Oilers Captain Connor McDavid was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. He recorded 42 points during the post-season – the 4th most ever.
-The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced their 4-game pre-season schedule. The first game will be played at Westoba Place September 6th against the Saskatoon Blades. Brandon opens the regular season September 20th against the Moose Jaw Warriors.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have put receivers Dalton Schoen and Keric Wheatfall on the injury list. They both suffered knee injuries in the Bombers 26-24 loss to the BC Lions last Friday. Schoen will go on the six-game injured list and Wheatfall will also be out of the lineup for a while. The 0-and-3 Bombers face the 1-and-1 Stampeders in Calgary this Saturday night.
-There were two games at Euro 2024 on Monday – Spain beat Albania 1-nil – and Croatia and Italy tied at 1.
-At Copa America – Canada plays Peru today. Canada lost its opening match 2-0 to Argentina last week
-and the Toronto Blue Jays losing streak is now up to 7 games after a 7-6 loss to the Red Sox yesterday.
