-Brandon Wheat Kings defenceman Charlie Elick was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the NHL entry draft over the weekend.
-The Winnipeg Jets signed goaltenders Kaapo Kahkonen and Eric Comrie on the first day of NHL free agency, and re-signed defenceman Colin Miller to a two-year contract. Winnipeg lost four players to free agency – Sean Monahan signed a five-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tyler Toffoli inked a four-year contract with the San Jose Sharks, Brenden Dillon signed with New Jersey for three years – and goalie Laurent Broissoit signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks.
-At Euro 2024 – France and Portgual advanced to the quarterfinals on Monday and will meet each other this Friday. There are two matches today to decide the last pair of quarterfinalists – Romania plays the Netherlands – and Austria faces Turkey.
-At the Copa America tournament – Uruguay eliminated the U-S with a 1-0 win – and Panama beat Bolivia 3-1. Canada will play Venezuela on Friday in the quarterfinals.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers lost 22-19 in overtime to the Calgary Stampeders this past Saturday. The Bombers are 0-and-4 at the start of a season for the first time since 2012. Winnipeg’s next game is Friday at home against the Ottawa Redblacks.
-and the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-1.
