-The Brandon Wheat Kings grabbed 18-year-old Slovakian defenceman Adam Belusko in yesterday’s CHL Import Draft. He played for his national U18 team at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2022 and ’23 – and also skated in this year’s U18 World Championship.
-The Winnipeg Jets four-day Development Camp begins today at Hockey for all Centre. The 35 players attending camp feature three goaltenders, 11 defencemen, and 21 forwards. The camp attendees include 17 players who were drafted by the Jets and 15 undrafted players.
-The Rivers Comets beat the Oak River Dodgers 14-3 in the South West Baseball League. The Comets are 10-and-4 and in second place in the standings behind the first place Boissevain Centennials who are 12-and-1.
-The Toronto Blue Jays lost 9-2 to the Houston Astros – they’ll wrap up their four-game series this afternoon.
-This Saturday, the Westman Border 50-plus Twilight Fastball tournament takes place at the Onanole Recreation Centre. Three games are scheduled – the Southeast Express open the day at 1:00 pm against the Onanole Sporty’s Originals, followed by the Southeast Express against the Borderline Legends – then at 6:00 pm, the Borderline Legends will play the Onanole Sporty’s Originals in Softball Manitoba Masters 50-plus inaugural championship game.
-In the CFL tonight – the 3-and-0 Saskatchewan Roughriders host the 2-and-1 Toronto Argonauts. The 0-and-4 Winnipeg Blue Bombers are back in action tomorrow at home to the 2-and-1 Ottawa Redblacks.
-and Golf Manitoba’s Provincial Women’s Amateur Championship and Provincial Men’s Mid-Amateur championship begin today at the Minnedosa Golf & Country Club. Jeri Lafleche of Niakwa is the two-time reigning women’s champion, while Patrick Perrin of Elmhurst is the defending men’s champ.
