Child Porn Charges:
A 40-year old Brandon man has been arrested on child porn charges, Thursday morning, following a search warrant on the 400 block of Fourth Street. The Brandon Sun reports that police received a tip through Cybertip.ca, a website that allows people to anonymously report crimes relating to the sexual exploitation of children. The suspect was charged with access, possession and distribution of child pornography
Meantime, this suspect and a 27-year-old man were arrested for possession of meth at this same residence. Police said both drugs and electronic devices were seized.
Long Weekend Crash Highway 6
The Manitoba RCMP closed part of a highway this long weekend; following a crash. In an RCMP social media post, Highway 6 – around Gypsumville – closed in both directions, no further details are available. Gypsumville is about 3 hours north of Brandon. No word on the extent of injuries.
Brandon Police:
Brandon Police are reporting 2-separate case of Sexual Assault Monday.
The Brandon Sun says on Saturday, a 23-year-old female reported being sexually assault by a 21-year-old male, who was known to her; in the 3100 block of Victoria Ave.
Then, later Monday, a female reported being assaulted by her boyfriend in the 1600 block of Stickney Ave; a 28-year-old male suspect was later arrested.
And Friday: police responded to a downtown hotel for a male who had been attacked with a machete, injuring his hand and face, he was taken to hospital. A 36-year-old male was arrested.
State of Emergency Northern Manitoba
Weekend Wildfires have triggered a state of emergency in Red Sucker Lake, Anisininew Nation, that’s 700 km northeast of Winnipeg. Fire there cut off the hydro to residents. Today, they’ re asking the provincial and federal governments; for emergency funding .
PM Tours Alberta
Meantime, our Prime Minster met with officials, and evacuees following Jasper’s wildfires. Justin Trudeau was in Hinton Monday. The PM took part in a moment of silence to honour a firefighter who died over the weekend fighting those fires. More than 20,000 people were evacuated from Hinton and Jasper National Park nearly 2-weeks ago. The national park and townsite remain under an evacuation order.
