Affordable housing in Brandon continues to be a hot topic of conversation, and a recent agreement between the City of Brandon and Habitat for Humanity could go a long way toward providing more housing in the future.
The two parties have come together for a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for developing vacant lots north of Stickney Avenue between 6th and 8th Streets for Habitat for Humanity homes. Habitat presented to city council in December of last year on the subject, and now the development is closer to being a reality, though there remains some research to do.
According to Habitat for Humanity Manitoba CEO Jamie Hall, the MOU is for Habitat to prepare a more detailed proposal to present to the city before January of 2025. Hall added things are progressing quickly enough that they’re actually expecting to have their presentation ready prior to this December.
Hall also said the plan could see the construction of 40 to 60 homes in the area.
