If you’ve waited in an emergency room in Manitoba recently, chances are you’ve waited longer to receive care than you would’ve waited in any other province in Canada. That’s according to data released by the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI).
At the high end (the 90th percentile according to their data), from April of 2023 to March of 2024 Manitobans spent anywhere from 13 to 19 hours waiting for care. The median wait time was between 4.4 and 6.6 hours. Both of those times were higher than any of the other provinces or territories listed. No data was provided for New Brunswick, the Northwest Territories, or Nunavut.
Abdominal and pelvic pain were listed as the top reasons for admittance to the ER in that time period for all territories surveyed.
