CAA Manitoba’s worst road in the province, Brandon’s 18th Street, was to begin getting its make-over today. Repaving will be completed in stages starting with the section between Rosser Avenue and Louise Avenue southbound. Expect minor delays travelling down 18th.

9-1-1 operators in Brandon have a new 5-year contract. The workers are represented by the Brandon Professional Firefighter Paramedics Association. The deal calls for total wage increases of 14% over the length of the agreement.

Health Canada has authorized Moderna’s updated COVID vaccine that protects against variants of the virus that are currently circulating. ‘Spikevax’ replaces the previous version of the vaccine that was released last year. It’s
expected updated vaccines will be available sometime next month.

Residents in parts of southeast Manitoba are trying to dry out after heavy rain swamped the region. Elma in the Whiteshell got the most rain with 205 mm. Steinbach and Winkler also had some overland flooding. More rain
is expected today.

The province is providing a $10.7-million loan to a company building a fish processing facility just north of Winnipeg. Sapphire Springs Arctic char plant, to open in 2026, is expected to create more than 100 full-time jobs – and plans to produce 5-thousand tonnes of Arctic char a year.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre will have his first chance to try to bring down the Trudeau government next Wednesday – that’s when a non-confidence motion could be tabled. The Tories would still need support from the NDP and the Bloc Quebecois for the motion to succeed.
