The province and Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs have started the process of hiring workers to help search a landfill for the remains of two victims of a serial killer. It’s believed the remains of Morgan Harris and Marcedes Myran were taken to Prairie Green landfill north of Winnipeg in the spring of 2022.

New regulations to allow Manitobans to grow up to 4 pot plants in their homes won’t kick-in until early in the new year. A key part of the legislation is ensuring seeds and starting materials are purchased from licensed retailers. Once the regulations are approved – the government will gather public feedback.

Assiniboine College has been awarded a bronze medal for Indigenous education. They received the recognition from the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics at its annual world congress.

Canada’s fertility rate has hit an all-time low – 1.26 children per woman in 2023. Stats-Canada attributes the low rate to the pandemic, which had many families putting off having children, also the high cost of living – and changes to lifestyles and the workplace.

We won’t be using a digital loonie anytime soon. The Bank of Canada says it doesn’t see a compelling case for moving forward with a digital dollar – and is scaling back plans. It says any future decisions on bringing in digital currency is in the hands of Parliament.

The Conservatives first attempt to topple Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has failed – but more votes are on the horizon. The NDP and Bloc joined the Liberals in voting against the non-confidence motion.
At least two more votes are expected before Christmas.
