Health-care support workers in Manitoba, including 4,700 in Westman, are to finish voting on a new four-year contract on Friday. The agreement calls for a total 11.25% wage increase.

In Canada, there’s an increase in support for Donald Trump winning the upcoming U-S election, but the majority remains hopeful for a Kamala Harris win. A new poll found 60% prefer Harris compared to 21% for Trump – which is up 6% from 2020. Trump is popular among older Canadians, Ontarians and Western Canadians.

The 44-year-old victim of a jailhouse beating in Brandon remains in serious condition in a Winnipeg hospital. Police say the attack happened on September 26th at the Correctional Centre. Three men, one aged 34 and
two 26-year-olds were I-D’d through video surveillance and arrested for assault.

Brandon police arrested a 29-year-old man on Monday in connection with a sexual assault investigation. Police say between September 24th and October 13th this year, the suspect had allegedly engaged in sexual activity with a minor.

While inflation might be cooling – your fall barbecue is still going to burn your wallet. For the second straight month, grocery prices rose faster than inflation, and beef in particular is significantly pricier – up 9.2%. Some food is cheaper including fish, seafood, and nuts and seeds.

The world’s second Sphere will be built in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The first one opened in Las Vegas in 2023. There are no details yet on where in the city it’ll be built, or how much it’ll cost.
The $2.3-billion Vegas venue features a high-resolution LED screen that wraps halfway around the 17,500-seat audience.

Out-of-town visitors will account for around 93% of direct spending – about $141-million. A downtown hotel even transformed one of its suites into a ‘Swifties delight’ for $1,500 a night.
