Sunrise Credit Union has pledged $37,000 in support, including $16,000 to the WestMan Mental Wellness and Suicide Prevention Program, through their Building Communities Grant Program.
According to a release, Sunrise considered almost 50 applications for the grant, ultimately settling on four organizations in communities throughout WestMan.
“The Building Communities Grant Program continues to be a resounding success, supporting a varied range of community organizations and initiatives in the areas Sunrise Credit Union serves,” said CEO/President Tim Klassen. “We’re especially pleased with the diversity of this fall’s recipients, supporting mental health and
wellness for youth and seniors, assisting with new construction of a new community amenity and honouring our historic past.”
The WestMan Mental Wellness and Suicide Prevention Program will put the money toward operations in Boissevain, Deloraine, Hartney, Melita, Reston, Virden, and Waskada, according to the release.
The other projects receiving support are the Deloraine Agricultural Society ‘Share the Shed’ project ($12,500), the e Pipestone Memorial Park Committee’s project to turn a vacant lot into a green space ($5318), and the Cypress River Senior Centre’s ongoing updates ($3000).
Sunrise added in their release they will be looking for more projects to support in spring of 2025.
