Word is Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is expected to step down as Liberal leader, maybe as early as today – this from the Globe and Mail. Insiders say if not today, Trudeau is expected to announce his plans before a national caucus meeting scheduled for Wednesday.

Brandon city councillors hold their first meeting of the new year tonight. On the agenda, a request from Waverly Developments to rezone land on the North Hill for 31 new residential lots – and a second request for a residential development located on the Sushi Hut restaurant lot in the west-end. Councillors will also look at amending the solid waste bylaw to add more ticketable offences.

Manitoba hit a grim record in 2024. The province reached the highest number of homicides being investigated – a total of 99 – that’s the most on record dating as far back as 1961. The RCMP say they investigated 58 homicides in 2024 – a spike of 25 from the previous year.

The clubhouse at Morden’s Minnewasta Golf and Country Club was destroyed by fire on Saturday – less than a week after its grand re-opening from a fire three years ago. The cause is under investigation, but its believed to have started in the kitchen.

Fans and musicians have been calling for Terry Bush and his iconic song ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ to be recognized with a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. You know it as the theme for ‘The Littlest Hobo’ – a show about a wandering German shepherd. Bush thought creating the song was just another gig, but 45 years later it’s still beloved – and it’s even played in some English pubs at closing time. This year’s Walk of Fame inductees have already been chosen – but there’s always next year.
