The provincial government announced today they had opened up applications for the 2025-26 Student Advisory Council on issues in the classroom and in schools in general. Kids in grades 9-12 are invited to apply.
“Our government continues to put students at the forefront of our decision-making – and what better way to ensure their voices are heard than from them directly,” said Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Tracy Schmidt. “Consulting with our young people helps us make better decisions that support student success and address what matters most to the next generation.”
The SAC is comprised of 30 students from around the province. They meet regularly with education officials in the Manitoba government and with other stakeholders. According to the province, previous SACs have helped with remote learning and mental health in the classroom, among other issues.
In the release, the province said “members contribute student-centered perspectives and input on current and emerging issues affecting students, creating positive change at the provincial level”.
The 2025-26 Student Advisory Council will begin meeting in August for a one-year term. Those who have participated in the council in past years who continue to meet the criteria can apply again.
Applications are open until midnight on March 21.
