The 10 annual Brandon Fire and Emergency Service ‘Tri-Charity Rooftop Campout and Boot drive’ began today (Mar 4) on the roof of Fire Hall #2 (1301 13th St).
Since 1954, firefighters have been raising funds and awareness for Muscular Dystrophy. Every year thousands of firefighters from all different departments across North American proudly carry their boots through the streets collecting donations for those with Muscular Dystrophy.
BFES says in Brandon “we not only collect for Muscular Dystrophy, but we also collect for the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba and our own Brandon Firefighter’s Charity Fund. This is a fund from which we donate to any local cause that we feel strongly for. We are extremely proud to have collected over $500,000 for charities from these fundraisers in the past and this year we are going to increase that number!”
This morning, Firefighter/Paramedics Kyle Martin, Corbin Mariash and Matt and Travis Tannas climbed the Aerial Apparatus onto the roof of #2 Fire Hall and will be camping out for the next 4 days and 3 nights.

BFES says “We can all agree, in the past couple years we’ve seen the cost of things go through the roof. As difficult as that is for all of us, we often think about how difficult that is for families that have costs that the rest of us don’t have. Costs for travel to doctors’ appointments, wheelchairs, special transport vehicles, custom orthotics, etc, the list goes on and on. Those are the folks that we do this Campout and Boot drives for, and we are always extremely proud that as an organization, we can come together and make a difference in these folks’ lives.”
