-The Winnipeg Jets are in St. Louis tonight for Game 3 of their first round playoff series. The Jets lead the Blues 2-0. Also tonight – the Florida Panthers, who lead their series 1-0, are in Tampa Bay against the Lightning, the Toronto Maple Leafs, who are up 2-0, visit the Ottawa Senators – and the Minnesota Wild host the Las Vegas Golden Knights with the series tied at one.
-Last night in the NHL – the Capitals beat the Canadiens 3-1, the Stars edged the Avalanche 2-1 in overtime, and the Kings downed the Oilers 6-2. Washington and L-A lead their series 2-0 – while Dallas is up 2-1 on Colorado.
-The Professional Women’s Hockey League is growing to a seven-team league. The expansion Vancouver team will start play in he 2025-26 season, which is expected to begin in November. The team will be the primary tenant at the Pacific Coliseum on the grounds of the Pacific National Exhibition in East Vancouver. The team will be known as PWHL Vancouver until an identity and brand are finalized. The team’s colours are described as Pacific blue and cream. The league began in 2023 with six teams in Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa, New York, Boston and Minnesota, and is approaching the end of its second campaign. (CP)
-The owners of the Grand Slam of Curling series are planning to introduce a professional curling league next season. The Curling Group says the “Rock League” will debut in April 2026. The league will feature six global franchise teams competing in a multi-format six-week season. Teams will be organized by region, with two each from Canada and Europe, and one each from the Asia-Pacific region and the United States. The Curling Group has yet to name host cities but is planning to hold events in Canada, the U.S., and Europe. Each team will include five men and five women. Captains include Canada’s Rachel Homan and Brad Jacobs, Scotland’s Bruce Mouat, Switzerland’s Alina Paetz, American Korey Dropkin and Japan’s Chinami Yoshida. Curling legends John Morris and Jennifer Jones will serve as strategic advisers and help with the creation and selection of the teams and formats. More details are expected over the coming months. -The Houston Astros swept their series with the Blue Jays beating Toronto 3-1 last night. The Jays open a weekend series against the Yankees on Friday.
