A long-serving member of the Brandon Police Service, K9 Storm, has passed away, the BPS announced today.
According to their release, Storm, who had been in active service for seven and a half years, died unexpectedly. He was born in 2015 and began active service two years later.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of K9 Storm, loyal partner to Constable Shawn Haggarty, and a treasured member of the Brandon Police Service family,” said the BPS in a statement. “Storm passed peacefully in his sleep last Friday, leaving a void not only in our unit but also in the hearts of those who knew and loved him—especially Shawn and his family. Storm was more than a working dog; he was family.”
In their release, the BPS said Storm had been part of the seizure of more than $25 million worth of contraband and illicit drugs. He also took part in numerous Tactical Response Unit deployments.
“One of Storm’s proudest moments was having the opportunity to work alongside his own offspring, Zeus and Blink, who continue his legacy of service here at BPS,” reads the release.
BPS also thanked Peaceful Valley Pet Crematorium who donated their services after Storm’s passing.
