Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie for Disney. Tony winner Cole Escola (Oh Mary!) will write the screenplay for the film, which is currently in early development.
The iconic Muppet character, created by Bonnie Erickson and Frank Oz in the 1970s, has never starred in her own feature film.
Lawrence announced the project on the Las Culturistas podcast, saying “I don’t know if I can announce this but I am just going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”
When asked if the longtime friends would co-star, Lawrence replied “I think so. We have to… It’s fu-ked up [that we haven’t done a movie together].”
Lawrence also revealed she considered starring in Escola’s Broadway hit Oh, Mary! but decided against it due to the demanding theater schedule.
