-28-year-old sex offender is facing new charges after being spotted wandering through a Winnipeg high school twice and grabbing a student in the St. Vital school bathroom. The child was unharmed. Scott William George was re-arrested Tuesday and charged with assault, confinement, theft, and violating a ban prohibiting child contact.

-The owner of Brandon’s “Tendercuts Meat and Deli” is facing weapons charges. Andrew Wrightson, was released yesterday after being charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and careless storage of a firearm, along with a number of bail conditions and a surety. He can, however, continue to work as a butcher, but is restricted from going to Souris.

-A routine traffic stop by Brandon Police yesterday, discovered a man driving with a loaded handgun and drugs. A 27-year-old was arrested for multiple charges including Assaulting a Peace Officer, Possession of 30g of Cocaine for the Purposes of Trafficking, and posession of a loaded Restricted Weapon, among other weapons related charges. He appeared in court Wednesday.

-People were lined up out the door to buy U-S liquor. The American booze returned to the shelves yesterday. However, only select Manitoba Liquor Marts put US alcohol back on sale after the Kinew Government temporarily lifted the ban this week. They will sell off existing American stock before it expires and donate the proceeds to charities during the holiday season; also set to expire on Christmas Eve.

-Manitoba officials issued a thin-ice advisory on Tuesday, saying the ice is very thin and inconsistent, after recent swings in temperature. Avoid walking, skating, and snowmobiling on rivers and lakes, until further notice.

-Kelvin Goertzen, former premier and veteran Manitoba politician, says he won’t be running for re-election. He says he wants to “clear the way for someone else” and give his party time to prepare. He will stay on as Steinbach MLA until the vote on October 7th, 2027.

-The Bank of Canada is holding its key interest rate at 2.25 per cent. The Central bank’s governor says the current rate is roughly the right level to help grow the economy, while keeping inflation near 2 per cent. The announcement was made Wednesday morning.

-A mobile harm reduction van will soon drive the streets of Brandon to help people at risk of overdose. Southern Chief’s Organization will operate The van, and will reach people in encampments, back lanes and other areas of the city who can’t reach fixed-site-services. The van is expected to start early next year, and end next October.

-The Association of Manitoba Municipalities and the Strong Cities Network released a 74 page document to help elected officials and municipal staff deal with hate, harassment and threats Wendesday. The toolkit includes 130 tips on handling threats, dealing with online hate and disruptions during meetings.
