The Manitoba government has announced a new chair and several board appointments to Research Manitoba, the provincial agency responsible for supporting and funding research across a wide range of disciplines. Innovation and New Technology Minister Mike Moroz says the refreshed board will help strengthen research excellence and drive innovation across the province.
Adam Herstein has been named the new chair of Research Manitoba. A partner at Pitblado Law, Herstein brings extensive experience in technology and intellectual property law, and has served with the Canadian Bar Association, the Canadian Technology Law Association, and the Manitoba Bar Association. He also contributed to the province’s Innovation and Productivity Task Force and holds degrees in arts and law from the University of Manitoba.
Herstein succeeds outgoing chair Andrea Legary, who has been reappointed as a board director. The province has also appointed or reappointed several additional directors to fill vacancies created by expired terms or departures, ensuring the board remains fully staffed as required under the Research Manitoba Act. The government thanked outgoing directors for their service and contributions to advancing research in Manitoba.
Research Manitoba funds and supports research in health, engineering, the humanities, and the natural and social sciences. Its mandate includes providing financial assistance for research projects, publishing scientific and technical information, and advising the minister on research priorities. The organization is governed by a board of nine to 17 members, with at least half required to be professionals in the health sciences.
