The playoff picture got a little murkier for the Winnipeg Jets as, while they were idle last night, the Nashville Predators beat the Anaheim Ducks 5-0 to move four points up on the Jets for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Jets did get some good news, however, as the St. Louis Blues and Seattle Kraken both lost last night to give the Jets a bit of breathing room. Winnipeg is back in action tomorrow night against the Blues at 7:00 Central Time.
Speaking of the Jets, they have announced Jonathan Toews will be their nominee for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, awarded annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies “perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey”. Toews joined the Jets this season to re-start his playing career after not being able to play the past two seasons.
After falling 4-1 to the L.A. Dodgers and extending their losing streak to six games, the Toronto Blue Jays will try to snap that skid at 2:00 this afternoon against the Dodgers one more time. The Jays will take a day off after today’s game.
Brandon Wheat Kings defenseman Nigel Boehm has been named a finalist for the WHL’s Daryl K. (Doc) Seaman Memorial Trophy for their scholastic player of the year. Boehm, a second-year-defenseman, was named the Wheat Kings’ scholastic player of the year after compiling a 96.5 average.
