Four people face charges after RCMP allege they stole more than $10,000 worth of work equipment and other items from a business in Portage la Prairie.
According to police, they got a call on May 8 at around 4:10 AM of a suspected break-in at a business on the 2700-block of Saskatchewan Avenue West. When they got there, they learned a man and woman arrived inside a vehicle that stopped behind the building where the business is located. Police allege the two then loaded more than $10,000 worth of items and work equipment into the vehicle including building tools, batteries, a hand saw and a grass trimmer, before they got back inside the car and fled.
RCMP said in a release that they inspected the exterior of the building and found no sign of forced entry, only to learn the break-in and theft had actually occurred at an adjacent business. They also identified two suspects and executed a search warrant at a residence on 18th Street Northwest. Officers recovered the stolen items and seized nearly two grams of fentanyl, a half-gram of crystal meth, drug paraphernalia and $780 in cash.
Four people inside the home were arrested. Two of them remain in custody, while two more were released following a court appearance.
