A major boost to rural health‑care training is coming to western Manitoba. Last week, Premier Wab Kinew announced at the Brandon Chamber of Commerce luncheon that a new Primary Care Paramedic program will launch at Assiniboine’s Parkland campus in Dauphin. The first intake is scheduled for January 2027, marking a significant expansion of paramedic education in the province.
The program will operate using a rural rotating delivery model, allowing students across western Manitoba to train closer to home rather than relocating to larger centres. Assiniboine officials say this approach is designed to strengthen the local workforce by making training more accessible to people already living in rural communities.
The province’s investment supports Manitoba’s broader effort to grow a skilled health‑care workforce and meet the needs of communities outside major urban hubs. Assiniboine says it’s proud to play a role in building a more connected and resilient health‑care system, especially as demand for paramedics continues to rise.
Applications for the Dauphin intake will open soon, and the college is directing prospective students to its website for updates. Once available, online applications will be posted here: https://assiniboine.net/form/emergency-medical-responder-inte
