A coach who has been part of Brandon University’s volleyball program since it began over 20 years ago and has brought the program to the pinnacle of U Sports success is getting the call to the hall from Manitoba’s Volleyball Hall of Fame.
Grant Wilson, who began coaching at BU in 2005 as an assistant and has been a staple of the program ever since, will be inducted into the hall of fame this coming Sunday in Winnipeg. He will be entering the hall in the Builder category.
Wilson’s coaching career at BU is extensive, but his career overall actually goes back even further. He won a high school championship with the Neelin Spartans in 1999 and won medals at both the Canada Games and as coach of the Manitoba U18 team.
Under Wilson’s coaching, the BU Bobcats won their first Canada West conference title in 2013 and earned bronze at the CIS (now U Sports) nationals that same season. Grant has led the Bobcats to six Canada West Final Four Appearances since taking over as head coach during the 2012-2013 season. During the 2018-19 season, he led BU to their first ever #1 national ranking. He won the Canada West conference and U SPORTS national Coach of the Year that same season.
In 2025, with Wilson at the helm, Brandon University won their first ever national title in volleyball.
