At least three tornadoes touched down in southern Manitoba on Tuesday, confirmed by Danielle Desjardins, Warning Preparedness Meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada. A brief tornado was observed around 4:30 p.m. near Manitou, followed by two more about 45 minutes later south of Carman.
All three were identified through videos posted to social media, and as of late Tuesday night, no damage reports had been received. The tornadoes formed as part of a storm system that swept across southern Manitoba through the late afternoon and evening, prompting multiple tornado warnings and widespread severe thunderstorm watches.
A possible fourth tornado was also reported near Dauphin, though meteorologists say there is not yet enough evidence to confirm it and the investigation continues.
Environment and Climate Change Canada is asking the public to help document the storms. Witnesses can call 1‑86STORM (1‑866‑786‑7676), email photos to storm@ec.gc.ca, or share severe weather images on social media using the #mbstorm hashtag.
