A 33-year-old man faces multiple trafficking-related charges after a traffic stop by the Brandon Police Service that police said led to a search of his vehicle and the seizure of thousands of dollars worth of methamphetamine.
According to police, the traffic stop took place at 9:10 on the night of Sunday, June 21, in the back lane of the 700 block of 10th Street. Police allege the driver was found to be in possession of unstamped cigarettes that were in plain view, so they searched the vehicle.
From there, police allege the search turned up a sealed 765-gram bag of methamphetamine under the front passenger seat, about 2 grams of crack cocaine, divided into three equal packages, a cellphone, $135 in cash, and a small folding knife. The vehicle was seized and towed.
Police also said the driver, who was also the registered owner of the vehicle, was bound by an undertaking requiring him to reside at an address in Sioux Valley. They said the driver admitted that he resides in Winnipeg.
According to a BPS release, the estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $37,500, based on a value of $50 per gram.
The 33-year-old man faces charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Meth, Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Crack Cocaine, Possession of Proceeds of Crime, Possession of a Weapon, and Failure to Comply Undertaking. He was also served with a Contravention Notice for possession of fewer than 25 units of unmarked tobacco contrary to the Tobacco Tax Act.
