Breach of Peace
Over the past 24 hours, Brandon Police Service (BPS) responded to two separate incidents involving highly intoxicated individuals. In both cases, the individuals were arrested for Breach of the Peace and brought to BPS detention cells. They will be released once sober.
Arrest Warrants
In the past 24 hours three individuals were arrested on the strength of their Warrants for Arrest. Two were held for court in the morning while one was released via Appearance Notice with a future court date.
IPV Assault Arrest Following Hit-and-Run Investigation
On July 6th at 2:08 p.m., police responded to a report of an incident in the parking lot of a business in the 1600 block of 18th Street. Investigation determined that a 28-year-old male assaulted his 28-year-old girlfriend following his involvement in a hit-and-run collision. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived and was not located. The victim sustained significant bruising and swelling to her face.
On July 7th at approximately 6:04 p.m., police received a report of an erratic driver in the 1600 block of McTavish Avenue. Officers located the vehicle and identified the driver as the suspect from the previous day’s incidents. The male was prohibited from driving due to a license suspension and was found to be in possession of a hatchet, contrary to his court ordered conditions prohibiting him from possessing weapons. He was arrested and held in custody to appear in court. The 28-year-old male faces charges of:
- Assault (Intimate Partner Violence)
- Possession of a Weapon
- Failure to Comply with a Probation Order
- Fail to Stop at the Scene of an Accident
The vehicle was seized and impounded for 30 days.
Protective Detention and Care of Intoxicated Persons Act (PDCIPA)
On July 8th at approximately 2:10 a.m., police responded to a report of an intoxicated female attempting to gain access to guest rooms at a hotel in the 3500 block of Victoria Avenue. Officers located the 21-year-old female, who was intoxicated and unable to care for herself. As there was no suitable person available to take her into their care, she was held in BPS detention cells until she was sober and could be safely released.
Motor Vehicle Accident vs. Pedestrian
On July 7th, at 6:45 a.m., BPS and Brandon Fire & Emergency Services (BFES) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at a marked crosswalk in the 1900 block of Richmond Avenue.
The investigation has determined that a 16-year-old female was proceeding northbound in the marked crosswalk when she was struck on her left side by an eastbound vehicle travelling in the median lane. The 16-year-old female sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was later transported by air ambulance, along with her mother, to Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Her mother has advised the media that her daughter sustained numerous broken ribs, a broken pelvis, lacerations, among other injuries.
The 38-year-old female driver was transported to BPS, and the vehicle involved was seized as part of the investigation. The investigation remains ongoing.
Failure to Comply x2
On July 8th, at 3:23 a.m., police attended a residence in the 200 block of Rosser Avenue East to remove a 25-year-old female who was refusing to leave. The female was bound by conditions not to attend the residence. The 25-year-old female was arrested for failing to comply with her release conditions and was held at BPS. She was scheduled to appear in court on the morning of July 8th, 2026.
Use of a Credit Card / Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
On July 2nd, police received a report of a wallet stolen from a vehicle overnight. Following the theft, the victim’s credit card was used to complete several unauthorized transactions totaling $431.17. Through the investigation, including the review of video surveillance, police identified the suspect. On July 7th, a 28-year-old male was arrested and charged in connection with the investigation. He was later released on an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 3rd, 2026.
Failure to Comply Undertaking / Theft Under $5000
On July 6th, police received a report of a theft of merchandise valued at just under $200 from a retail store in the Corral Centre located in the 900 block of 18th St North. The suspect was identified through surveillance video. The investigation also determined that the female was bound by an Undertaking prohibiting her from attending the store.
On July 7th at 4:14 p.m., police located and arrested the 22-year-old female. She was brought to BPS detention cells and was scheduled to appear in court on the morning of July 8th, 2026.
