Residents in areas that are in the most danger of flooding from the Assiniboine River have now received their Flood Preparedness Notifications from the City of Brandon, according to city officials.
Four zones alongside the river have received these notifications, which the city has stressed are not evacuation notices but are designed to prepare people if an evacuation should eventually be necessary.
“Receiving this notice does not mean an evacuation has been ordered,” reads a notice on the City’s website. “The City is taking every available measure to reduce the likelihood that residents will need to leave their homes and is sharing this information so residents can prepare in advance should conditions change.”

If an evacuation becomes necessary, the city has said people will be notified by:
- Alert Ready emergency alerts
- Local radio stations
- The City of Brandon website
- City social media channels
- Door-to-door visits from officials
The city encouraged residents in notified areas to stay informed and to prepare a bag for each household member with essential items such as identification, medications, health cards, clothing, chargers, and other personal necessities.
