Partial lane closures will be in effect as the City of Brandon begins a water main replacement on 1st Street next week, running between Louise and Van Horne Avenues.
In a release, the city said the project will involve upgrading aging underground infrastructure, including installation of new watermain piping, valves, hydrants, and service connections, which will
help ensure reliable drinking water service and support continued growth in the community.
Because construction will take place in stages within the roadway it will require partial lane closures. The city said traffic will be maintained where possible but they also advised drivers to expect delays and to plan on using alternate routes.
“Access to homes and businesses will be maintained throughout the project,” said the city in their release. “The City recognizes that construction may cause temporary disruptions and appreciates the patience of residents and business owners.”
According to their website, the city is targeting this section of watermain because it has a history of breaks, and was first installed more than a century ago in 1910. It not only requires a larger diameter to increase pressure and flow in the area but also serves a hospital, multiple assisted living facilities and a commercial area of Brandon.
There was no timeline offered in the release, but the city promised regular updates on their social media channels.
