The Municipality of Boissevain-Morton was one of the communities issued with a ministerial order to fog for adult mosquitoes due to concerns of West Nile virus, and they’ve made some progress in that regard. The second round of fogging was scheduled to be completed last night.
According to posts on the municipality’s Facebook page, they scheduled the first round of fogging on August 8 and had scheduled the second for last night. The ministerial order, received on August 6, instructed them to fog an area of three kilometers in diameter.
In their release concerning the order, Manitoba Health said anyone can be exposed to an infected Culex tarsalis mosquito from June to September. The highest risk period occurs when the infected mosquito populations are greatest, typically from mid July through the end of August. However, as of their latest update, there are no cases of West Nile virus in humans in Manitoba this year.
The municipality added that buffer zones do not apply to fogging for mosquitoes that may be carrying West Nile virus.
